Project Information

The STEM Literacy Project team creates and facilitates professional development for participating science and mathematics educators that focuses on authentic issues in STEM education. The Improving Teacher Quality Grant (ITQG) program will provide funds to explore STEM-based literacy through a statewide initiative connecting more than twenty educators (grades 7-12) from across the state as well as seven post-secondary institutions.
A leadership team comprised of science, math, and literacy experts will collaboratively develop lessons within units of instruction that integrate math, science and literacy. Key pedagogical approaches will also be developed and modeled. This framework will allow teachers to engage in lessons themselves, learning the content and developing literacy practices, prior to creating lessons and units for their own classrooms.
Throughout the project, teachers will receive feedback and support from a team of math, science, and literacy educators.

Participant and School Expectations
  • Full participation in the program, including the willingness to create units of instruction
  • Collaboration with colleagues and facilitators
  • Adjustment as necessary to the technology requirements of the project (e.g., full participation in the online portion of the project)
  • Access to relevant data for project evaluation (i.e. MAP scores)
